I don't see these very often but I had a medical device with them a couple years ago so I bought a set of pentalobes. If you're taking a lot of stuff apart a set of pentalobes could come in handy one day.

This was from a server caddy.

Both iFixIt and Kobalt make a nice multibit security set.

The set I got is from ProTorq.

A guy I met at my last job worked for a company that makes surgically implanted devices (pacemakers maybe??? or similar) but patients' family would return the external monitor after they were no longer using it... D':
He gave me one that he had on hand, which made me realize I needed a pentalobe, and said he had a ton more in his office he could bring me.

Then the pandemic hit.

Not just a pentalobe, but a security pentalobe! Don't you think there enough types of screwdriver bit in the world already. The only thing that makes it secure is "most" people don't know what it is.

Oh come, it’s not as bad as the centre post 9 point star bit. Or the torque circle bits.
Or the z key. I’ve only seen that once and had to use a pin-prod to get it out. An actual friggin Z!
Those H bits are annoying though because the driver/bit always break.

Seriously though. I despise circle bits. With the tiny little teeth inside. That only work with one specific too small to use included driver or the very expensive pin prod multi sets. They do, however, make for great security.

Hmm... I should have been more specific, yes, a security bit! D:

You did mention it in the subject, I was just groaning about all the different screws used in electronics. My eyes are getting too old to see the difference between a 6 point and a 5 point. Glad I can use my camera to zoom in and take a closer look!

I have scrapped tons of medical and electrical stuff but so far the only thing that had security screws on it was an old Ryobi battery charger. It was one of those moments where you are like "...WHY?..."

Yes. But not the batteries. That’s the real “why!”
