Hi all! Recently go interested in scrapping, and was wondering if there is any value if cables/wire (IE Usb, ethernet, various kinds of video connectors) and if they are profitable to scrap. I noticed that wire was listed at 40 c/lb, but that copper was much higher. Would it be worth it to try to strip them? I'm pretty new to this, but any advice would be appreciated. Thanks!

Boardsort only has one class but many scrap yards will have 3+.
There’s many kinds of wire. Single core, shielded, twisted.... and many metals used, copper, tin, aluminium, zinc, steel, silver... even gold.
If you’re only scraping a few pounds here and there then sorting, and saving, different types is a lost cause.
Stripping it makes sense at that low volume as well. A manual wire stripping block can be had from eBay or amazon for $20 or less. Basically a block of aluminium with holes and screws installed, with razor sharp machined screw ends for splitting wires. Lock the block into a vice shove one end in, and then just somewhat easily pull.
Things like telephone and cat cable aren’t worth manually stripping on your own. But usb cables have good turnaround. The best stuff, copper wise, is DVI cables and vga cables. Serial and parallel. Etc. Many wires in a thick sleeve but good copper inside the individual wires. Old high end external scsi cables can be a good mine for nickel; which is more expensive than copper.
Just keep in mind the common stuff like telephone cables take a lot of finesse and give out very little. Extension cables have good copper wire in it but a fractional weight to the insulation.
If you want to do this regularly everyone on earth who has use one recommends TNT strippers. A bit pricey but you get what you pay for with it.
On the slightly automated side Steel Dragon units work well for many too.
