Hi,

I have started buying PCB's and the first question I ask is if people have done any de-population. One person said yes, and they handed me 2 sandwich baggies. 1 contained MLCC's, and the other containing tantalum capacitors.

How do I handle this at Boardsort? I plan to give them the 2 baggies, but the boards are all mixed into a gaylord, and I am unsure of which might be missing components. When I bought them I looked them over and I saw ic's, and nothing big was gone, just a lack of "color".

they do not buy components just as an FYI.

I would go through the boards if you can... unless you have come to an agreement with boardsort, I would assume they would charge you a sorting fee for an entire gaylord if it is a mix of all different types of boards. Stripped boards would be down graded depending on the level of stripping.

It's really going to depend on what's in the gayloard.
Generally the premise of boardsort's payouts being as high as they are is the sort aspect reducing personal costs; pre sorted.

That said there's things to work with here.
You can sort the gayloard out yourself into the classes for the best payout.
Or depending on what the majority weight is you can can ship the entire gayloard but if the majority weight is low grade power boards they're not going to give you full value for the motherboard and half dozen finger cards in an entire gayloard. ... but if you have all telco boards and 5 or 10 power boards mixed in they're not going to downgrade the whole thing to low grade.
Your next step is up to you; but I'd suggest calling Chris and talking to him.
I'd suggest that anyway when sending in THAT much in an order.

Right now the gaylord only has motherboards in it. They are not sorted yet based on sockets. It is about 95% full. Once it is full I will start getting ready for my trip to Boardsort.

Unsorted it will probably get at or just above small socket rate. But I say probably. What they do varies depending on many factors.
