It's initially a play on a quote from the unredacted notes in Apx II of the 2nd edition of The DooM Bible.
Equally it's something that any DooMite and any bare metal programmer would recognize. Low Dos is a system state error in most DOS environments where you enter a command, have an I/O error, get locked into an inescapable commit and, in some soft power/reset environments can not escape without pulling the plug.
Some people refuse to give up, hence, "lost".
lol

From a working standpoint and equating CPU in your terms to be the computer unit and not the actual processor... (?)
From a scarp standpoint I'm figuring
$3*38
$3*129
$5*8
$3*1
$4*3
$4*1
$3*11
$4*3
$3*1
$2*1
$4*3
$4*1
$4*29
$4*5
$4*1
$3*3
$5*1
$5*7
$7*4 for rack units $3*4 for towers
$7*1
$5*1
$1*10
$10*1
$5*7
$5*10
$5*1 (for rack) $0*1 for box
$5*1 (for rack) $0*1 for box
$0*2
$1*0 (dollar for the box)
$10*camera
$1*all stands

From a (hope) it works point of view
Those rack computers can fetch $500+ the switches start in the mid hundreds as well, core 2 units are all in the $20-$30 range, most of the core i series are mid-upper hundreds.
the ending stuff on the last two lines is junk, though the camcorder can run a bit of value.

$4k is effetely low-balling it. the 990s alone can run 13K

Your saying that these prices are:
1. your opinion on the scrap WORTH or
2.what you would BID to buy the lot

If 2, do you an estimate on what the scrap/boarsort VALUE would be?

Lost you beat me to the punch. I was going to give my estimate to see if I was close to the expert. LOL I figured $5 per cpu average without hard drive with total scrap value estimate about $1300. Of course if the hard drives, ram and coa's are there and the computers work someone could reinstall windows 7 and sell each unit $100 plus if they had an outlet and time. Of course windows 7 support is done 2020 so time is limited. I figured 20k plus with the right setup. I wish I had the contacts. I have 20 win 10 and 20 win 7 and sell one once in a while. I went to pawn shop and they weren't interested in the win 7's and only offered $40 for each win 10 with monitor, mouse and keyboard. I told them I would give them away or donate before getting screwed that way.

ps that lot looks like a govdeals lot. government equipment.

So, you're thinking a total scrap VALUE, that is how much the person who gives the material to teh yard/boardsort will receive. $1300 would not be what you want to bid because it makes no sense to bid that value. Would you say you like to only spend 1/4 on the bid amount considering the work and profit?

And it is a govdeals lot. But its kinda rare how they have EVERYTHING listed so well. Makes for a good exercise to pick the brain of the masta.

The estimate may be a little low because of servers but yes that would be my guess of total value to you. I would not bid more than $2 to $3 per cpu without the hard drive and maybe a buck more if they have hard drive in them (a lot of govdeals cpu sales remove hard drives even if not stated in description). I have bought govdeals for about 10 years of course different states have different rules about hard drives. I also have been able to personally upgrade my own and family members computers cheaply using govdeals and the free windows 10 upgrade of course that part is now done.

well, that would be BOTH the scrap value AND my offer. Based on my experience and willingness, I'd offer just OVER the scrap value (I'm seeing $1000 give or take) as a starting bid. About $1500.

Given if I can cobble together just 5 systems I'd already be ahead on my investment. The auction that started this thread off blows my mind how low it went. And I'm not kicking myself for not heading to penske and renting a truck and two trailers.

I figured all that without the hard drives. Since most people actually remove them, not just gov. Personally I use a base image on a locked SSD with a small writable partition to boot up and test a computer. If all is good and I can get an image of windows (3.11, 95ORS2, XP) or Linux (Debian: Arm, X86, PPC, Risc) to load and run, it's good for sale and off to eBay land it goes.
