I tried to photograph the actually battery but the flash reflection simply wipes it out from the photo. Its too small.
The one that caused the hole doesn't cover a single letter on the posted battery in the pic... this larger one Which has enough compression energy to blow through the 4x4 brace and plank board top.
A cpu bios battery could in theory destroy a 12" thick box.

So use you eyes and remove every battery and every potential battery you come across.
Let's keep everything safe.

Use the smallest snips shears you can to cut soldered contacts.
Do not simply grab and twist.

If the battery breaks or is broken immediately place it (and any board still attached) in a dry spot out of reach of pets and children. Far away from any open flame. in an open area.
The hydrogen will dissipate within a few minutes. Making it safe to remove.

Place damaged batteries in a clear pete bag. Mark it with a pen or marker. And dispose of according to local law.

My explosion in this case? Condensation and a shorted wire contact on a broken (corroded) bettery so small i didn't see it. Blew through the board and left the nice crater.
