Why does Boardsort not class out the different metal socket sizes? Small, medium and large. I will post pictures later comparing socket size to an Intel Pentium.

I understand. Eg a core i socket vs a ryzen vs opetron or xenon

With LGA; land grid array, metal sockets, very little of the value is in the socket itself. But the boards tend to be a known commodity. Double sockets have the same items, (components, controllers, etc) doubled.

(There are places where the idea works against you and I’ve brought those up to Chris before. Such as Gigabyte, and Asus, extreme gaming level boards. Unfortunately they are such a minority boardsort can’t creat a class for something they may see one or two of in a month. If that. )

Generally there is so little difference in value based on the sockets alone it’s not worth sorting any further. We’re honestly talking adding 1-3 cents for TR4 vs an OSC socket. Or Socket F vs Socket L. H2 vs R.
When looking at that range you can see an h4 is actually overvalued by a few cents. Socket J is considerably over valued on this by nearly 8 cents.
An sp3 with 4094 lands is about 22 cents below value based on averages. (Who in their right mind is scrapping an SP3 board any way!)



All told in a few years when TR4, SP3, and 3647 start to enter the scrap stream... maybe it will be worth making a category. As those are worth more.
But since there’s virtually 0 chance of them ending up in the waste stream at the moment they’re a non factor. If you hooked one of those up to a whole house generator with jumper cables and fried it you’d still get $200+ for it on ebay.

The value difference is literally less than a few pennies.
It’s a logistics issue. Small metal $1.45. Large metal $1.47. $1.75 vs $1.77.
When they ship the boards out as just simply metal sockets. So it would be an entire two new sorting classes of no difference to them.

The bottom line here is they don’t sort them so they don’t offer a sorted class. Laws of averages in varying values between individual boards with otherwise matching sockets are a prime example of the reasoning as to the “why” unless you have pre-sorted tonnage... which isn’t something boardsort does on its own.
If you have a large enough presorted supply you may want to call Chris. They may, or may not, be able to work something out.

Apologies if that comes off tougher than my intention. Basically it ultimately comes down to what boardsort is willing to do for classing.

So I’m just pointing out this is a rather small classification difference that is unlikely to Change any time soo; if at all. Even when the TR and S:FX boards are taken into account there are far more H and L socket boards. Can they take the time and expense to sort for even that much of a difference with as small a footprint as it has? Probably not. It doesn’t make business sense.
That’s where my mobo comment above comes in. At some level (show me da money) I do agree with you. I’d love to have high end motherboards eg AsRock with 2-6 ounces of copper, Gigabyte with it’s gold plating and titanium, be more valuable.
But from their point of view it’s not worth it for the issues of sorting.

I haven’t worked on that specific board before. But very similar designs are used for
A)Lifting. They’re handles.

B)Grounding. The four contact points go all the way through the board. And it sits on a grounded plate (not likely here, and usually bigger and insulated).

C)Spacing. A plastic housing with 1-3 very large slow moving fans clip into the bars.

D)something else.

B is too much for me to fully explain here without another book post. But doesn’t look right and isn’t needed here. C is possible but the layout doesn’t look right. Too close to expansion despite being over the sockets. A is most likely. Positioning is good for a lift and pull. But... there’s always d.

I can rule out handles because there is almost no space for your hands underneath them Ithink it is either d or b, c is possible but I do not think so.

Looking closely at the photo I see it’s soldered in three holes at i leach end.
Which makes b possible. But that would only make sense if... well. It doesn’t here. You already have the screws ground in. In a server environment I can understand maybe adding secondary but tertiary?
but who’s to say. ;)

If you can find a part number and manufacturer Printed on the board somewhere I may be able to pull up a schematic. Or at least a manual. Now I’m curious.
Edit: just need a part or model number. It’s obviously dell. Lol
