I normally pull the heatsinks off of motherboards and gold finger boards. I know with gold finger boards doing that and the heatsink is encouraged. However, should I also be doing it on the motherboards or is that lowering the value?

Generally you should remove all heatsinks that aren’t riveted to the board.
