I have removed some brown board from an old appliance, and in doing so it broke on me. Is it still okay to send that in to BoardSort?

Yes as long as the pieces are (generally) together they’ll take them at whatever class it was before it broke. Loosing pieces will often downgrade a board.
Since brown boards are normally low grade to begin with I’d not worry too much on it anyway.

So basically as long as it isn't in small pieces it can still be recycled?
