New to this forum. I have a very large quantity of complete vintage 486 computers, Also have large quantity of vintage laptops, and rooms full of computers, laptops, ram, cpus, lcd crts, hard drives etc. Is there any way to sell the entire lot at a fair price?

Sounds like a liquidation lot.

Your best method is to test everything and sell tasted working components. A tower unit with a 486 DX4 120 and cx-Z6890 can fetch thousands on ebay if it’s all working and has completely utilised compatible cards. They’re semi-custom programmers units that run 68k and x86 code natively AND in parallel.

On the other hand a DOA IBM or DEC 486 25 or 33 will get you $20 or less. That’s less than the processor alone is worth in scrap.

Honestly, if you’re not looking to test stuff and DON’T want to scrap them yourself you have two or three options.
Ebay is great. List the whole lot as local pickup or buyer schedules freight.
Ebay has a vast clientele looking for just that kind of stuff, myself included.

If you don’t mind snapping photos OfferUp is great. Post a picture and a price and wait for people to message you.
Others swear by competing apps like let it go etc.
But programs like this it isn’t sold just because someone comes to look. Buyers have no obligation to complete a purchase like they do on ebay and back-outs are common.

Call a liquidator.
Some will buy it outright, others will sell it for you.
Do find one that specialises in electronics. If the guy walks in and says oh kool old computers. Say thanks for coming have a nice day.
If he/she walks in and says wow is that a pyramid 486 turbo? You got a good one.

If you’re in the Lake Michigan area, northern Indiana, norther Illinois, Wisconsin, lower Michigan: You can always email me.
I may or may not buy it from you but I’d probably take a ride out to look and at least point you to someone locally if not myself. Depending on what you have.

Thanks for feedback. Im actually in Syracuse NY. There are around 70 complete 486 computers still in plastic. They look spotless inside. I turned on a couple and they worked great. I just had to change cmos battery to keep bios settings. also have rooms full of old and new computers, laptops, ram, vintage computer parts etc. I was thinking there might be someone interested in buying all.

Hi,

I am located in Albany, NY
I would be interested in taking a look at the computers and possibly buying them
I could use a fair amount of 386/486 parts for pet projects
With the moderators permission, I could give you my email address so you can contact me about this.

Jon

If you want to post the address I’m fine with it. It’s clear this isn’t winding up on Boardsort’s dock as is so there’s no competition issue.

Do NOT use a valid email format. Meaning don’t use @ and ideally don’t use (eg) at gmail dot com etc

Try residing in, ie: my name is joesixpack and I’m residing within gmail, or I’m living in charter net.
That’s a good methodology at any public facing site.
Keeps sweepers (targeted spider bots) from saving the post or page.
