Some TVs prior to the mid 80s will actually have silver so it may be worth looking into, from 40s-60s you may even find gold

Yes silver cables will be quit heavy and sturdy.

My aluminum wires have all come from tvs circa 95-2010. Not silver as it doesn't weigh enough. After my first 3 being aluminum my next two were copper.

Just thought I would clue you guys in, some Sanyo TVs use aluminum wire for the degaussing cable. You want a good copper recovery for a TV, the larger Sony trinitrons have about 5 POUNDS, yes POUNDS of number 1 copper for the degaussing cable! The last one I did at least had that much..not bad for a TV.

YES rcm is right Sony Samsung and mitsushita have major copper cables.
3-5 lbs under 38 inches but some of their massive 42" plus screens can give you even more.
Not to mention those gigantic aluminium canister capacitors weighed up together and huge ceramic resistors!
Just don't hurt yourself trying to grab that 200 lb 50 inch from the side of the road!

Old pre 80s Zenith and Bell TVs have silver cables and bell and rca both used gold cables and wires if you go back to the cabinet TVs.

Goodwill will NOT take tube TVs; they used to be my SOURCE for low cost (sub-$2) tvs for parts.

but best buy and other electronics shops will recycle them for you.
I have long had a buyer for lead glass so once I got the unit free I just drop it vertically about 3 or four feet or on really big ones smacking the tube off with a hammer. So never too much worry on breaking it .

Does Best Buy charge a fee or will they just take my old tube TVs and recycle them for free?

Most will take up to 3 for free if they haven't been scrapped.
Expect a small fee if you took them apart .
Working TVs get cleaned up and sold or donated to other organisations.
