Help please :-)

Also - is it generally better (more profitable) to eBay the boards with more obvious gold content?

My yard takes them as heavy silver breakage. Slightly higher than midgrade rate from boardsort.
I cut the legs off, usually silver, silver plated, or nickel.
Cut any of the sink back off that’s above the unit, for silver plated copper (few cents above bare bright),
if the pins stick to a magnet there’s nickel and they go as nickel. If there’s a red, gold, or yellow colour under the silver it’s plate and gets silver plate rate. If it’s pure and non magnetic it’s silver and goes as clean silver.

Does that apply just to ceramic with metal or all ceramic with these lead legs?

Applies to any 2, 3, 4, 5, pin with or without backing Be it ceramic or plastic.

This is a “package” format. Resistors and transistors are the most common. Despite very different applications the actual materials makeup is very similar. And yes regardless of ceramics or plastic housing.
I’m not taking the time to uncoil tiny bits of copper so I just cut off anything that sucks out. MOST of these come with silver or silver plate legs
Making the 3 seconds to snip them pay off really quickly.
99.9% of the heatsink/backing is silver plated copper or brass. Boardsort buys it and so does every scrap yard worth visiting (once you’re over a pound or so). So again the 5 seconds to snip off the excess height on some of these is worth it.

I use a nail/screw trimmer but any metal cutter will do. A good quality dewalt or Milwaukee nail trimmer is under $5 and last much longer they should.

Thanks for the info!!

And just so I don't goof this up -- legs sorted separate from excess heatsink or they all go in the pool together?

And rough ballpark - what kind of pound rates we talking here? I might not get enough for it to be worth my while even if it's easy...just don't have the volume...so trying to do some math :-)
