Only have a handful - 3 laptop 3 desktop...all work one is 500GB seagate. Too much trouble to eBay even if sold as-is? Best way to sell as scrap? How would you advise I process these?

Sales options are up to you; I’ve had too many I an 100% positive worked be received “not working” including brand new ones.

I strip them. I have a few write ups on taking apart hard drives. Once you’ve done one or two they can break down almost completely in under a minute. Lots of good stuff in them: like high grade aluminium or manganese shells, high grade aluminium platters, rhodium from the read heads, stainless, permalloy, neodymium or cobalt from the magnets.

Can you post a link? The search function doesn't like such a generic search term

7 and 8 covers the external screws on 90% of drives
6 and 9 cover the remaining 9%.
There’s that pesky 1% of bizarreness that, well, a sawsall does well on theses! ;)
5 inch (5.25) drives almost universally have Philips #2 case screws.

Spindle screws are usually 4, 5, 6, and 7 for:
2”, 2.5”, 3.5”, and 3.5”.
5 inch drives that have t screw spindles usually use t8 but most have #3 delta screws, #1 Philips, or #1 triforce compatible proprietary.

You can always pick up the 6 piece set of tech edition speed out removers too.

Just noticed this thread and wanted to add the following on scrapping laptop drives. For laptop drives, a t4 or t5 torx bit will fit those screws, but often times, I've stripped the screws trying to remove them, so what I usually end up doing is removing any screws that do come loose, then use a flathead screwdriver and pry the board off. Chris (Boardsort) posted a thread back when the forums were started on how he scraps hard drives. Search for it and learn how he does it.

Spot on with the sizes K
There’s a few writeups on taking apart hard drives. Look them all up, figure out what works for you, and go from there.

One thing everyone agrees on is once you get a method that works for you you can i A to Z in under a minute per drive.
With that my math at the end of my linked post is accurate. You’re making major money per hour.
The hard drives are one place in escrap where with experience you’re really making major money if you line up the right set of scrap buyers.
