Actually there is probably a government reg involved here, not that I am saying the governments shouldn't be involved in scrapping but there is a lot of areas that government especially local shouldn't stick their noses in. Don't get me started. LOL ps you started it Lost. lol

I wasn’t complaining. Just one of those strange things I came across.

If it is a regulation of some sort they should forget steel which is generally obvious in sizes like this and maybe tell us if that hard drive case is magnesium, aluminium, manganese, or some other metal or alloy.
THAT would be useful!
;)

(Oh and fe is iron, not steel. And this is definitely not clean iron! Lol).

Amen to putting ID on hard drive cases and such, it would really help in enhancing recycling efforts in escrap to be more efficient. I knew that you were throwing out the pics to show something different but it triggered my thoughts on local government interference in things that should be a matter of individual freedoms. I was getting on my soapbox. lol

And I agree. This just shows why government should stay out of things like this. Even something as easy as this and they get it wrong.

I WOULD NOT BE MAD..if they stamped all material with say a letter to represent a factor/type/grade[ call it what you want] on all metal objects not just e-scrap ..

I’m all for it as long as it’s correct. The above picture wastes a lot of chrome, nickel, and copper.
I’m already annoyed they stamp “aluminium” cans as al. That ignores the layer of tin.
Aluminum cans like soda and beer cans are worth twice the value as “ubc” bs sheet aluminium.

The case above is a 400 series stainless. Worth about 7c per lb. tossing it in the iron pile makes it worth 1.5 cents pp. and literally destroys the nickel content’s usability!

My thought, evil, has long been the US should adopt the semi mandatory system used in Japan and mark every item with every material. Much like anti static bags tend to be “pp-al”.

but when it comes to the materials you mentioned it i would settle for a generalized system of identification .rather than none .we get something going then we can work on improvement .
