can someone please tell me what this is? And is it worth getting the welding off to look inside?
It looks like it is gold Plated. Is this true?

Yes it’s gold plated and no it’s not worth opening.
There’s no real class for them. Normally I toss them in with my gold pin connectors. About the same value. Inside is a bunch of ceramic and copper. Sometimes some tiny glass relays.

Lost, do you have an idea what it is? It came from a piece of really thicks Aluminum, my son was told these were from an Aircraft Simulator, what we gather is that they are test parts to make the real thing or the real simulators. The board is really stuck to the aluminum and don't know how I will get that off.

Try this thread

nothing really special here.
inside is one of two things. A large collection of very small relays, or this style amp unit pictured in the link.

I broke one open and posted pics. If you went through the trouble to get it completely removed, you may occasionally get peripheral. But most of these come out midgrade and low. Hence with the gold plated backing, and true pure silver backs, I toss into gold pin connectors. anything on aluminium or steel etc I just toss in my "electronic scrap" bucket for my local yard.
only way to know what's in them is to open them, which is far more trouble than it's worth.

Also; based on that post from 2017 I'm changing the GRADE to PERIPHERAL.
at the moment.
I'm going to forward this pair of posts and see if Boardsort has an actual place at the moment for these.
again I've just used gold pin connector out of habit and connivance, knowing the vast majority of what I'm pulling from old units are the relay boxes. but given the two types in the same package housing; i'll need to verify what to actually do with these.

Thanks for the info, we bought these as scrap but I got some really supper gold plated chips off them, there was about 7 chips on each one, I ended up with about 2 pounds of chips. Nice find for me. I just need to get the board off the aluminum, maybe I will try a heat gun to see if it will loosen the glue.

Based on my faulty memory i believe a glue gun and a screwdriver were my choice

If I remember, when I get home today I will show you the piece. Here is what one looks like without the board attached. If I get the boards off and all the hookups I have a really nice piece of MLC (clip) aluminum.
