Hello,

I'm trying to get the best value for these types of boards. Does anything else need to be removed from them to get the full value (capacitors, etc.)? Please let me know!

beachbum1975,

Both of those boards are at maximum value as they are. The larger is a Dual Small Socket Server Board paying $2.60 per pound.

The smaller board is a single Small Socket Motherboard paying $1.85 currently.

Thanks for the look!

I see heatsinks on both boards that can come off and be sold as aluminum. A small flathead screwdriver should release the mounting wire from the brackets at both ends.

The long fingered heatsink on the single socket board I have found that most of the time is #2 copper.

I'll have to keep that mind. How did you discover that some of those motherboard heatsinks were copper instead of aluminum. Did you scratch the surface on the bottom with a metal file and find red underneath?

I always pull all the misc. metals off my motherboards. Noticed one day that they seemed too heavy for aluminum so I took it over to the grinding wheel and sure enough...it was copper. There are also a lot of cpu heatsinks that look like all aluminum.....you will be amazed when you start checking some of them.

Did your scrap yard buy those heatsinks as #2 copper or did they downgrade them due to some other reason?

If I get any heatsinks like those, I try to separate out the copper from the aluminum. Last one I sold as an alloy I only got 0.15/pound for it. I'm wondering if that was because where I live, to sell radiator coils, you need to be a licensed AC dealer or authorized by one to sell radiator coils as scrap metal.

For any of the aluminum heat sinks you should be getting cast aluminum price on anything shiny, and at our local yard we don't get hit for anodized or painted aluminum parts. Talk to the folks you're dealing with.
