Hello,

So do I just have bad luck or are these CPU’s that are eligible for this Test and Buy program hard to come by?

I’ve been collecting CPU’s for a while now. I will attach some photos. I went through about 50 CPU’s. I did not find any with a CPU name or CPU scode that I see on your price list.

Per the photos, anyone have any advise for me on how to get the most amount of money for my CPU’s? I do have more than what are in the photos, those are just the CPU’s that I’ve gone through so far. I have zero knowledge of CPU’s so I’m hoping I am just missing something.

The program is a bit problematic in implementation.
Not only are you supposed to test them before you send them in, they still need to verify them when they get there. One thing you’ll notice is for the length of the list there’s only a dozen or so sockets. You’ll also notice that almost all of them are LGA (pinless), not PGA (pins). I believe there were some very early CORE procs with pins but I cannot be certain. I dropped out of intel completely post pentium era until I switched to Mac in 17. And I rarely see early core series CPUs in repairs or replacements.
It looks like on the list all the CORE2 chips they accept are LGA.

Instruction Transition era CPUs are rarely of any real value. Consumers don’t look for the systems down the line and businesses rarely make the jump till the second, or more often 3rd generation meaning you won’t find 50 or 100 running in some office building somewhere. So there’s little market for them today.
There’s lots of 486 computers still in use, but 386 is almost nonexistent. Lots of pentium MMX but few original Pentiums. CORE2 quad is popular and still in use in some markets but no original and few non quads.
You’ll also see the marketplace up and down in that cpu list. CORE2 quad and first generation I cpus destroyed the k series and early XP AMDs, the 7x from WDS, etc. But there’s a dip of measurable proportion till more modern ICs.
Hate to say it but yes, looks like it’s just bad luck.

Working old ceramic Pentiums have some resale value on ebay though, as will those Risc processors.

Finally found them. Those upside down ceramic risc CPUs are Samsung DLP chips.

Ive now gone through every CPU that i have and only found 2 that match the list. I will send those in along with the next scrap shipment i send in to Boardsort. I love and am dedicated to Boardsort, but i dont think i can send in all of my CPU's (besides these 2 to Test and Buy) for the scrap prices. I think i will at least wait and see if scrap prices go up or if i every discover a way to get more $$ for them.

Again, i know very little about the Test and Buy program, but i am surprised this if for pinless only. Hopefully this program expands in the future!

Oh, I’d do quite well if they went back even one generation with intel. The volume of P4 era I see is an easy flip. Black fibre pentium and celeron... but the scrap rates are high enough to not think twice.
Modern LGA CPUs have very little recovery value. But I agree with you the resale value is something to look at.

While most say eBay I’ll point to another choice. Amazon Trade In
Load the page, click find more items, enter the ID
Keep in mind the accepted items changes daily, hourly. Maybe by the minute. So if you don’t see it now try again later.
Also keep in mind to LOCK and complete trades FAST. You can send multiple trades in a single box so better to rush clicking checkout than loose the chance. Once a trade item is pulled from offers it will void in your trade cart after approx 10-15 minutes. It is what it is.
Trading is for amazon store credit only, but honestly... today, who doesn’t use amazon for SOMETHING

Thank you very much for the Amazon Trade In tip! I was completely unaware they took these. I used to use this for books years back.

I am trying to figure out how to search and find my CPU's. Can you give me an example of what to put into the Amazon search bar for each of my CPU's?

I’ve discussed amazon a few places here. Amazon has a few things they buy themselves. Mostly books, a handful of CDs and DVDs.
Then there’s the third party buyers who amazon buys for.
There are two facts I’ve discovered since the trade-in program changes a few years back.
1) what is tradable now won’t be tomorrow
2) it’s totally random.

CPUs aren’t regularly tradable but they do come up from time to time. Mostly real new (much like Boardsort) but also really old. 486 and 386 CPUs. Both of those I’ve traded to amazon in the past.
Use the same ID model numbers like Chris looks for on the BS trade.
Again amazon is totally random. I now run everything through that link on it’s way in and before I post it anywhere else. I’ve traded network cards, serial modems, laptops, 486 processors, K6-2s, new sealed toilet paper. Radios, cell phones, OLD cell phones, hearing aid batteries, cameras, VHS tapes... car parts. Lol.
Oh, and you could for a while trade in the first generation Genesis controllers for more money than the Genesis. $12 vs $10!

The down side is it’s totally random and can take much longer to get a review response from them on items you do send in over what they claim on the checkout page. I waited 6 weeks to get paid for a laptop and have had plenty of items sent back for various reasons. I’ve also managed to send previously rejected items (which I believe were perfect) at later times and had them accepted.
The up side is shipping and rejection returns are totally free.

And one more time, totally random. I really believe the trade partners just send amazon a database dump of whatever and amazon integrates it. I traded 4 SCE-TBD2. More commonly recognised as the plastic thumb sticks inside dual shock controllers. :D

Per the price chart of the CPU's that you buy back, how often does that change in regards to which CPU's you buy back? And is there any way we are notified of which you are no longer taking or which CPU's you do now buy back?
