First up: a new video is being edited at the moment. This time I tackle one of the worst and most convoluted modern-ish laptops; a T series IBM. Everything that could go wrong did. Sooo look forward To some good laughs.

Second: news!
Well, gold pin connectors are at one of the lowest points I’ve seen.
:’(
So I’m looking forward to a new recording this week.
In the past the pins I’ve sent in have been something I had replaced for a reason; or from connectors I had a special tool designed to open them up easily. Such as RS232 and RJ-11 and RJ-9 connectors. Or board pins I have had to replace.

Connectors have dropped below my shipping threshold so it’s time to reconsider opening up others now.
We’ll journey through this together as I find out ways to easily and quickly remove pins.
You’ll also get to watch my frustrations as I find which connectors will just get tossed into my 65čpp harness wire bin.
Subscribe to this thread for updates; and links when I finish.

New video pulling apart a UPS system...and depopulation of a low grade board just posted.

Went well enough I decided to fill out the memory card with a partial depopulation.

Laptop: Part One first half of an evil IBM laptop

laptop part two second half of evil ibm laptop

Inadvertently; I believe this will show why scrap rates for whole laptops are so low. Where some low end Dells and HPs can be striped bare in 10 or 15 minutes, this thing took almost an hour.

Granted as I move on with these many will notice I’m not all that destructive. There are components I will resell.

Clicked on videos, but they are too long to watch this early in the day...will save them for rest breaks and nighttime viewing. One note: my cheap HP has terrible sound, but I got no sound at all on your videos. Definitely will watch, sound or no sound, just to watch an expert and learn.

There’s no audio.
I had intended to use one of the YouTube free backing tracks. Unfortunately there appears to be a big issue with licensing at the moment and I didn’t want to get caught up in any of that so for now there’s no sound.

Apple TV: 1st generation

Part 1
Part 2

This was fun. Never dealt with one of these before. Had to pull an iFixIt break down guide to figure out how to get it open. You can all laugh at the first few minutes of fumbling I do! ;)

As you can see the warnings about being careful with the rubber base are bunk. The glue forms into the rubber and at this age, you’ll need to have a replacement pad to do a repair.
I had this posted on eBay for over a year at 49.99, then 39.
If anyone had clicked make an offer it was set to auto accept $20. The cost of shipping it. Alas no takers.
So we open it up. Gently. The WiFi card can flip for $25 easily so I’ll make more scrapping it.

Ultimately I enjoyed this one a lot. Apple has always had insanely amazing craftsmanship. This tiny unit is stunning for its age. This is a full fledged high end Mac. Which is why so many people mod them. For me... a fun study

New videos done over the holidays. I’ll come back and post links as I edit and clean them up and get them posted. But here’s a quick preview:
Early DVD drives
Harmony remote
Nikon camera
80s luggable
Streaming boxes, car chargers, cell phones, microwave oven.
And cell phones.
Also: filling a request and
Pulling pins from connectors

Got a few lucky wins and will be posting many different cell phone generations from the early 90s to this year. Some highlights: a Motorola brick phone. Multiple iPhones, a current galaxy note, a R3-m, and many others.

Finally let me know if there’s anything (reasonable) you all want broken down. It looks like the free backing music is being sorted out, one of the reasons I’ve been holding off, so we may get some various music backgrounds on offer soon too.
