Are the connections that appear to be silver plated brass on most boards really just that?

I posted a little bit about this on the other message, but if it came from a computer it is likely gold plate. If it is from something "non-digital" it likely is brass.

The stuff I'm talking about is brass but it has a silver colored plating. I know its brass underneath just curious if its silver plated and if it has a price of its own. Just trying to stretch the pennies as much as I can on low grade stuff.

I do a lot of these little bits and pieces. The silver terminal connector from an electric cord will be nickle plated brass. The other piece that looks like it's a fise holder from a circuit board will most likely be tin or nickle plated brass or copper, so scratch it to see which one it'll be Those little squarish long pins are usually tin or nickle plated copper or brass.

I have 1 gallon plastic jars labeled with 5 different categories to cover this sort of stuff, and so far I've not had the need to make a label with "silver" on it... I am still holding out hope though.

Thanks for the help. I always check with a magnet so it must be nickel. Does Boardsort have a price for dirty Nickel?

After shipping you'd loose money per pound... this stuffs is a scrapyard trip. And remember what I said about some of those bits being copper.. tin or nickle plated copper is #2 or 1.50 or $1.70 a pound here, VS dirty brass @ $0.70ish.

kandksalvage hit the nail on the head. There are some things that are best left for the local yard.

Most of your non-gold items would fall into this category, either because they pay too little to ship, or we don't buy them at all due to a lack of volume.

Thanks for the feedback.I appreciate your honesty. Shipping won't be an issue for me. I'm in northern OH so it's about an hour road trip. Just gotta wait until I get a load worth the trip.

Just a heads up, military uses some High Quality stuff,

MIL-W-22759/11 Standard Wall

The Standard Wall Wire has a silver plated copper conductor. The MIL-Spec wire has an insulation of TFE non-stick coating and has a .010 nominal wall thickness with a voltage rating of 600 Volts and a temperature rating of 200 ºC.

http://www.militarywire.org/mil-w-22759.htm

Aircraft and mission critical equipment has it , although selling it is difficult because of few buyers for it. As Boardsort mentioned having enough volume limits people who do buy . Now the wires usually connect to some nice Plated connectors if you do run across some. And boardsort has the tools to scan items and know what is what, just my opinion of course
