The Pentium 'may' be... the ES most likely stands for engineering sample. You would have to dig around and possibly throw it up on ebay. If it is in fact an engineering sample, you should be able to get good price for it.

The other chips are nothing special. I had 20lbs of the surface mount 486 chip and the other is an AMD K5 or K6... kinda hard to tell with the printing all gone.

The capped one is a k6-2 and no special value.
The fibre 486 same, nothing really there as far as collectors value.

[edit]spoke to soon see below[/edit]
. As I said in the other thread value--yes. But they are stolen. There's very few legitimately acquired ones in the wild.
I'll leave morality discussions to others but there's value in them.

The Pentium ceramic I have here also has the ES on the back.

Just looked at some of mine and have Es as well.

Found it. It's a production run; not a sample

I read something about certain ceramic pentium having ES on both sides but I can't remember what it said. And the other chip is a am k6. But the writing isn't gone- it's just not engraved or carved into the metal like all the other k6's I have. The cap is completely smooth. It looks almost like it was painted black and then they stamped out the numbers. I'll try to post a close up pic of it in a few. Thanks for all the help everybody

Yeah, it couldn't have been a sample, as mine was pulled from a computer.

It could still b a sample. Mine was pulled from a computer also. If I understand correctly engineering samples are some of the first chips they produced and were given out to select employees or vendors etc to test out. They just never were returned. Anyone else know more about ES?

My catalogue database has it as a production run. So I have little doubt

Also from what I see on a few CPU collectors forums an ES or E/S stamp for an engineering sample would be die stamped on the top; not part of the product code in general. Along with engineering sample spelled out occasionally.

But again while I collect CPUs I stay away from engineering samples myself; I won't buy them despite the allure... And report the ones I do see on ebay. Just too many questions. Not enough answers!
As I said, very few legitimate ones out there. Apple/IBM are known to give them to specific employees involved is something important as was SUN.
I can't find a verifiable source for Intel anywhere on gifting first run and pre run CPUs. AMD is known to have K4 and K5 CPUs stolen from pre runs and that's well documented in a few places.

This one is absolutely not a sample, but a production run CPU.
