I have quite a few green fiber with metal top cpu's. The green fiber without metal top pays about 3x as much. If I remove the metal top from the CPUs will they be bought as green fiber no metal? Or will they still go as green fiber with metal top?

They will go as green fiber without metal but removing the top is not as easy as you may think and I gave up long ago. The bonding is heat resistant, and well designed meaning no heat gun or mini oven removal without burning the CPU.
It extremely tough so using a knife is risking fingers.
Break the CPU or burn it, and your at peripheral rate.

Truer words have never been spoken. I tried one, wound up slicing my finger deeply, not worth it at all!

The tops come off surprisingly easy. I just made 4 or 5 passes around the edge of the metal top starting with light pressure and increasing a little each time with a razor blade knife. Then slid an old razor blade just barely under one corner to hold the top up enough to slide the blade of the razor knife in and cut the rest of the glue. I've only removed a couple of them but so far so good. The last one I did didn't even leave a scratch mark on it

I should probably specify all the pentium tops came off easily. The only Celeron I had had solder in the center of the metal top holding the top to the chip. I heated the metal top with a wind-proof lighter for about 3 seconds and it came right off. I didn't burn or break/crack any but maybe I just got lucky. I'm not saying everyone should try removing the tops. Attempt at your own risk but I probably doubled or tripled the value of mine by removing the metal tops. Thanks to all who have answered my questions.

Does removing the metal tops on the amd k6 put them in the amd ceramic category?

Yes and they're much easier to remove. And safer.

Just a bit more input on this subject, if you have pinless CPUs that have a metal top, leave it on. Makes it a bit heavier as they are pinless with or without the metal top. Correct me if I'm wrong.

The pinless ones are the only ones I wasn't gonna pull the metal tops off of for that exact reason. It will make the CPUs lighter and you will lose money. Any expert opinions?
