So all fuses must come off the boards along with the batteries? What are we supposed to do with them? I'm getting a small inventory of fuses, batteries of all shapes and sizes and not sure what the next step is

I'm pretty sure the fuses can stay on the boards. Board Sort buys lithium batteries. You have to tape over the terminals before shipping.

Lisa, for anything outside of cell phone batteries any 'store whose principal inventory is electronic goods...'
Basically any major electronics shop has battery recycling. It's a federal regulation; part of the battery and bulb act. If you're some distance from a major shop ask your local fire department where to dispose of volatile batteries.
Regardless of what anyone says never put any batteries in the trash.

As far as fuses you don't /have/ to remove them but it's the polite thing to do. Those canister fuses are vacuum tubes and can and do burst .
Not deadly but loose glass shards are dangerous.

They can also be worth more per lb than board weight.
Silver fuses run $4-$8 per lb right now depending on filament.
Nickel fuses 80c-$1.50.
Really old fuses pre mid 80s can get into the $10+ range when the caps were pure silver .

Proper recycling collection aside:

Old alkaline batteries have heavy metals and are prone to leaking even at low heat like in a land fill.

Modern alkaline batteries while "safe" for disposal is a waste of resources even if you're scrap yard won't pay for them see if they'll recycle them in their mixed aluminium shred. Lots of good stuff in a battery

Nicad and nmh are terrible for the environment.
Lithium is so volatile it's almost unreasonable. We need a new tech. A warehouse went up in Chicago a few months ago, another scrapyard went up a few weeks back in Indiana, and Samsung phones are blowing up just charging them.

Silver oxide batteries are worth mucho mucho! Foolish not to sell them.

Lead acid? 15-30c per lb.
Those alkaline and nicad pin socket batteries from boards, just toss them in a rechargeable battery bin. Even hardware stores have them now. Tape the contacts first though. (Eg Dallas)

Lostinlodos, I sent you pictures of my collection of fuses and batteries, although that's only a small portion of the cell phone batteries
