File comment: Tear down or not to tear down, that is the million dollar question. Curiosity says tear it down, let's see what's inside. But it says laser product ,so I am asking you.

Mobile CD player.
Nothing dangerous. As long as it's not turned on. Lol.
Shell is stainless, controller board, some tiny peripheral boards, motor, stainless rails (308 or 400 series) flat wire. Not much there but worth more apart than together for scrap.

I didn't realise that the shell was stainless. I have always thought that they were aluminium, especially because they didn't spark?

Lostinlodos, you said controller board, is that different from a cd/dvd board?
And ,flippy, I have found that depending on the grade of SS (stainless steel) that it may not spark, I usually do the scratch test, easy too scratch, aluminum and hard to scratch SS.

Stainless with nickel will spark.
With aluminium or magnesium will not. 308 doesn't usually spark.
Actually the best I've found for me is to look under a fluorescent tube, an old shop light. Stainless will always have multiple colours in the stripes, aluminium will look like different shades of silver and grey.

But the best way is to get an old 5 meg hard drive and pull the cobalt magnet from it. No matter how little the iron or nickel et al content is it will still stick or drag.

Great for permanently wiping tapes too ! Just rewind the tape to one end. Place magnet over clear plastic window for a few hours and you've got a blank tape. Be it pcdat or vhs or anything else. Though the tape will never work again.

Lisa, it will be at least a cd/DVD board but could also go as telco depending on factors.
