I've got a Tandy 1000tl tower. I haven't removed anything from it yet. Would it be worth more as is or should I break it down for scrap? I know it's from the early 80s just thought I'd get some opinions

Fully working they're worth $20-$50 depending on the specs.

Somewhere between $10 and $25. Again depending on configuration
If it has a long skinny Z80 or Zr32 gold caps they are 8086/8088 chips and then it's down to configuration purely; and how good your local yards are as well.
Shipping an old working Tandy and have it still working on the other end of it's travels takes some tlc in packing and static protection padding etc (I suggest a pacmail or Fedex office and shipping it priority or ground, respectively, and paying for them to pack it).
But if you have a 32 in there, and a working 2 or 5 meg hard drive you're easily over the $75 mark now in resale. Over $100 if you have cp/m

As scrap, if you have the right set of buyers locally as well, a 5 meg hard drive can get you $20 alone parting it out. Lots of silver, palladium, nice rhodium pickups. And the platters are gold aluminium alloy. Non of that boardsort buys but of real value; comparatively.
The main board will be atleast large socket, if not telco. Ram cards if installed are silver finger ram. But they probably aren't installed. If they are they'd be worth $5-10 each (per 32k). They're ecr boards and look very different from modern ram cards. Any expansion will be gold finger or telco.
Not counting as long as the pins are straight I'd sell the bios for $5-10 as condition unknown. Award or Zilog bios chip. They're static resistant so just stick it in a piece of polystyrene to keep the pins safe. But if you have a gold pin bios, and the pins are bent, it goes as pentium ceramic.
Etc etc

Bottom line plug it in and see if it boots.
If it does post some specs or photos, and what OS it boots to, and I can guide you to some idea of a price range. If it's doa post photos and I'll class out the boards for you.
:)

Here are a few pics. I'll try to get some better ones later on if you can't see what you need to see.

Congrats you photographed a big foot!

1/2 if you've got a decent local yard break this down. That's what I was saying are the high value drives (comparatively)

3) 3.5 board is peripheral, aluminium shell and al motor. 5.25 . Assuming you didn't chop up the power supply plug the power into this after you pulled it from the case. Then flip the lever and see if it makes any noise. If it does sell it online as for parts. Get $3-$5 for it. If not board will be peripheral, or gold finger card. Drive is probably cast spun al. Brass, al, steel and a motor.

4) telco as is

5) gold finger card

6) won't know till it's completely apart but large socket or telco

7) the CPU will be 386/486 class.

This unit is newer than the so called grail units. It's almost certainly running dos 3 or 4 with windows 2 or 3, or possibly a GEM variant.
Too recent for the custom ram cards too. Fully working you're in the $20-$25 range here on the higher end. But I wouldn't hold out for more than $15.
Good chance you'll get less and a very good chance it's worth more as scrap.

Only thing I'd pull to Ebay as for-parts/as-is is the 525 drive and the modem.
Both can get around $5 .
Don't try to sell the CPU on ebay (ever) if you have less than 100 feedback. An arse of a buyer could leave you with no money, no CPU, and a closed ebay and PayPal account. Via the buyer protection program. Scamming buyers only get away with it if you have leads than 100 feedback, after that point, I've read, they actually take the sellers rebuke seriously. And you've got the standing historically to fight back in the review process. You still may not win but at least you won't be shut down.

this thing is foreign to me compared to the modern stuff I'm used to. Hell I remember using one of these as a kid! That and Atari lol! I haven't plugged it in yet but I'm gonna first chance I get.

This old it may need a jump start.
Meaning.
Plug everything in and let it sit dripping from mains for a few hours before you power it up. A lot of stuff in there that may not have held a charge in a long time. Giving it some juice ahead of time can reduce the shock (pardon pun) the system may go through suddenly being alive again.

It's alive! I can't believe it! Probably 30 years old and it still works! Now I just have to find an antique monitor or get an adapter to hook it up to a modern one so I can see what os it is running

=)
Back when computers were tanks.
Now the question, as you said, is what's on the rom. Full cp/m? K/p? Dos+gem+basic?! Or bios?
Anticipation... this is exciting. ;)
