I know a scrap yard near Austin, TX that still does. Was really hoping the ev market would create some demand for old batteries but it doesn't seem like it.

All American Recycling if you wanted to try and find out. And I don't remember what their prices are at this point.

Find a battery turn-in point near you for 18650s.

Some cell companies have a battery and phone turn-in as well. Drop a few every week so it doesn't fill up with just batts and no phones.

I do the same with printer ink cartridges, if they're too messy to clean or strip.

You may, or may not get paid, but at least they will take them for free for sure.

A) lithium is dangerous

B) lithium is expensive


My suggestion is check the white pages (online) for your area
Call every scrap yard
If no buyers just bring them to a hardware store or electronics seller to dispose (donate) them

Getting paid is unlikely in this country. But try. If not… please recycle… don’t toss batteries of an type

If the battery looks like a baseball and about to go I’ll deal with it myself. But I have 50 pounds of MagOut fire blankets to put out reactive metal fires, titanium coated kiln bowl, and years of experience.
Blankets on the ground, bowl in the middle, battery in the bowl. And fire a nail from a nail gun from 20feet away.
After the puff and burst, flip the towel over the top with custom made grippers.

Then the next day the remains go in a sealable hazmat bucket and I pay for recycling the remains.

But anything larger than a small cellphone removable battery I have a paid service for explosive and fire suppression buckets that I ship to the recovery company via FedEx. And the paperwork to do so is extensive.

Mine are designed for metal fires, specifically magnesium. But my goal is to be able to protect the surrounding areas,
Not extinguish. We have class D extinguishers for that.




They do this stuff all over Asia. Never tried it, never will. I’ll just get a new battery thanks moving on.
