I’ve been following this since it was posted.
A 24Kt gold Nintendo Wii

I have to wonder. What would BoardSort pay for 24Kt gold plated metallic plastic? We know the Wii shell is ABS/PP/AL/CR
Recovery expense keeps the shells of the Wii and U about 13č per pound right now.

You know your a scraper when you look at a one of a kind and still consider the scrap value! I wouldn’t do it, I’m a gamer, but still!

Hey Lost! Think the Queen ever played? :P

Uhm... sorry to highjack your post but if you get a chance I posted some pictures regarding some questionable relays (Hg???) in the What is it? part of the forum. If you can make heads or tails of them I'd appreciate it.

No. Long before it got picked up recently by media I knew some of the story of this unit because i know someone who was involved with the project.
I wrote an op-Ed on it in game.info magazine.

It was made by the same people who make the thin, bling custom cases that are sold today. 22Kt Xbox and PS4 units.

This really was intended for the Queen. A combination of security, international rules, and politics got in the way of her ever taking ownership. (Rumours persist she wasn’t happy to not get it. That people lost their jobs and positions over it. I don’t know if it’s true but if it is: they’re lucky they didn’t lose their heads!)
I don’t know the reality of it. Shortly after the unit made it back to the creators it went all fight club “we don’t talk about”
Dpress said it was a tax issue. Underground Gamer said there was a security concern of some sort. Are and TR both had generic articles when it went up on ebay which is how I reconnected with it.

It wound up being part of some sort of sponsored giveaway prize then disappeared.

For those interested the original cost was around $2000 into it in materials.

I’ll flip over and pull up your postings; but will likely be mid day before I reply

LOL, I didn't know the Queen took after the Queen of Hearts.

I guess I'm not interested in going into debt to buy it if she never took possession of it. Which is too bad, I think that would have been a fun story.

No worries, I just hit a deadend and thought I'd see if you had any thoughts before I give up or take a break and try looking later.

Think about it. One of a kind and it works! If you were king or queen and someone kept this from you…?!
Lol!
The rumours circulated in British game and tech mags for a while though that people were, less than kindly, removed from positions.
But gossip on the Royals is so cloudy we’ll never know.

I do know it would up as a prize for a contest. Then I believe it was traded once before it disappeared. I had long forgotten about it till I read a news post on it.

I’d love to have it if they put the decimal where the comma is!
