Ok, here we go. Fun times. This comes from a Vietnamese friend who worked for a one of the (then) few companies in Taipei that was pressing chips at the time. I’m not sure how correct he is, but:
Both chips are eeprom chips used as controllers. They are part or of the FC/AB (later MOS) 4 series. The missing 4 donates bin-saves. They failed to hold save states without live power They were reused/sold as ram chips. He doesn’t recognise the logs but also recalls seeing it.
It does make sense. My first thought was control roms based on the layout and… 16 pin, late 60s design. Post microcontroller but pre-ICP.
My thoughts: possibly page storage for an electrotype style machine. I popped the shells on some old dedicated systems and can’t find a match. Rest assured I’ll keep looking even after you forget about them. ;) Not knowing a chip is for me like a giant metal sliver in the bum. I can’t shake that not-right feeling.
