One of my semi-commercial suppliers runs a mail order drop ship parts service dating to the 60s.
Actually built his own R2D2 knockoff.

He got the design plans and schematics from one of my sister’s friends. Built the “brain” and robotics based on an 8088 Intel with a AMD 3k sub processor.
I wrote the layout code and inventory layout using roomba doom and VisiD kit.

He works most of the time. Goes and fetches items from drawers on shelves up to 5 foot thanks to his hydraulic leg lifts.
Except when he get lost. Or distracted . Squirrel …
Well, they distracted me too so…?


People ask me how I feel about robots in movies and ai etc.
I can see first hand how you can build a relationship with a computer with this. He’s like a loyal but troubled pet. Almost, dare I say, friend. Especially since he always greets me when I show up no matter where on the property he is or what he’s suppose to be doing.
Actually, I think I’m the only person that hugs him. Go figure .

Actually “where did those two go” and “baby we don’t need that” is a recurring issue with my wife.
Along with “that damn robot”

Waite! who doesn’t need a 4033 signal processor?
