Hello, apologies for what is likely a very Noob-ish query about the Mixed Wire category, but it seems my search skills are failing me and I can only skim the boards so many pages back before cutting my (time) losses.

When cutting power cords / cables for the Mixed Wire category, I understand connector ends as its own separate classification. What I can't seem to figure out is whether or not I should be also clipping the AC 2 or 3 prong ends, or if they stay on.

Some older threads I came across referenced it being a yard-to-yard situation, but I am seeking what Boardsort's word on the topic is, as that is where I am intending to bring these to.

I did send Chris an e-mail a couple of weeks ago, but, as of yet, have not heard back.

Thank you in advance, for what is hopefully not an annoyingly basic question with a super obvious answer somewhere I've just embarrassingly overlooked, lol.

I could be wrong but I believe you must clip the female and male plug ends off.

The male ends I microscrap (not for everyone so please don't bash me) and toss the prongs into my brass bucket after clipping off the copper that comes out with it.
The female ends I don't know of any recovery technique so they just go into my dirty brass category.

Not all connector ends are gold plated. You must verify they are first. A lot of connector ends are brass or plated brass.

JK JK, don't use fire. but I have seen some folks cut them open with a hack saw. I second just tossing them into dirty brass.

now that I think of it a hot knife might work too.

Cut the ends off


If they are gold plated they can go with connector ends.

If not most yards buy them as dirty brass or low grade cable.
