Help, what way does this chip go in this socket? Took it out and now can't figure out how to put it back in.

Came out of the voyager system in the ID forum.

Thank you!

Pardon my comment here but first off if the lower picture is taken BEFORE you removed the chip in the upper one just make the chip match the direction of the first picture.
(Sorry from a service standpoint most computing errors at between the keyboard and the chair).
Seriously I’m at fault for that myself too. Keyboard not working after update? Red alert direct contacts search for Apple internal help... or, damn dog. You pulls the cable out again.

If not:
Unkeyed processors suck.
I’m 75% sure my 25% chance is correct. See photo. This method works for x87 and AM87 chips, VIA, and Sparc so the best advice I can give you.

If it doesn’t boot and doesn’t fry the chip: line up the tab on top of the chip with the not square, right circle, cutout. That works the remaining 25% of the time when it’s different.

The good news is the vast VAST majority of non-keyed sockets have 4 way ground out fault pins. The chance of frying a chip in the wrong direction from the top 8-10 manufacturers is fairly low.

I’ve killed just one in over 30 years.

I was kind of thinking that the "Tail" on the corner of the gold would correspond to the area on the socket that you circled. But I am not a computer person so I may be wrong.
I will try ebay on this board first, which is why I am asking, if no luck selling it that way, I might put it on a shelf.
I have no way to test if the board works or not, but am assuming that it does.

Thank you!
