Hey everyone, I usually make it a point to remove heatsinks because i usually scrap my aluminum locally. I've seen some people leaving the heatsinks on. Especially on the really congested power supply boards, which i always thought were usually midgrade. Could anyone tell me....when is it advantageous to leave a heatsink on a board? I usually find them more valuable to scrap as aluminum than to leave on the board. Does anyone disagree and / or have some insight on this?

Thanks!

If they are "easy" to remove, I usually remove them from power supply boards, since usually mixed and extruded Al prices are better per pound than low grade/power supply boards. I usually recover most of the larger copper bearing components off most boards as well.

Generally it’s best to remove heatsinks in general. Anything above midgrade gets downgraded for heatsinks. And the price of spun and extruded aluminium is above midgrade prices.
