Looks like a new fad in crypto is here. Multiple reports from ArsT, Mac Today, Toms etc all covering this latest crazy idea.
Laptop mining farms.

Well; it make sense on the price level. When a $250 entry level graphics card is selling for $900 and the thousand dollar ones are obscene; sure. Just look at ebay prices for AGP and ISA cards! 3D blaster, Voodoo X, 3DFX, all in the high double digits in many auctions.
So buying 100 surplus laptops with discrete graphics and stripping the shells sort of makes sense. I’ll say this though: as a benchmarker that likes to torture review test equipment the most extreme laptops today aren’t going to survive more than a few months doing this. The mid-range ones in the photo may last 6 in my estimation.
Side thought—This is crazy stupid. Your laptop will die before you break even. I thought it was a glorious prank when everyone was running the same photos in their reports. But as more pictures come out and Reddit users screaming it works….
:(
I have no idea how the markets will respond when there’s suddenly hundreds of thousands of dead 2010 Dells in scrap streams but this is gonna be interesting.
Amps go to 11. Laptops like a nice calm 7. Did I mention this is crazy?
