Well happy Easter weekend for many of you.
Though I’d take a moment to also make a remembrance of a happy little member of the tech community who had it’s first public showing this weekend back in 1990.
The first weekend of April gave us the public demo of the Mach8 from ATI.
When coupled with the GT card package it, which included ONBOARD SOUNDBLASTER AUDIO! kickstarted the 90s 3D revolution with sub-$700 3D cards!

Long before Apple decided to ignore the pundits and do whatever it wanted: ATI decided to scrap its markup and put out a flagship card at <20% markup.
The Mach8 at $249, $299, and $399, and the GT at $699 brought CPU offloading and 3D, respectively, out of the RISC workstation market and on to the desktop at a time when the competing 3D cards started in the mid one-thousands.
Happy holidays to everyone.
