I normally don't take components apart but I got some large transistors, I believe are IGBT type, that I ended up taking apart out of curiosity.

The dies are attached to a big heatsink and some have silver colored wire connecting different dies. I saw a older post that seemed to indicate they could go in Peripheral grade (before the split).

So... Are these consistent enough to go in a specific grade if they're knocked off whatever board they were on? Can these be disassembled at all (I assume the dies are soldered on?) or is there even any benefit to doing so? Are the wires actually silver/silver plate?

Thanks marked141

Free of the metal backplate they should be high peripheral.

With a backplate attached they’re definitely midgrade.

I have a question about these that has been eating at me for awhile now. The second pic from the top of page, the green one with the 4 "silverish" squares on it, does anyone know what material those squares are made of??? It's not silver. I did a scratch test with the Platinum acid in my test kit and got what looked like a positive for palladium, but it's an older kit and the acids might be expired. So I'm stuck wondering?!? Anyone?

Probably nickel.
But I’m just guessing

Do you know of any test I could do that would confirm, or deny?

Acid testing is your best bet. With current acid. Lol.
;)

You can always try finding a scrap yard with an XRF gun
Or try coin or jewellery shops to find someone willing to test (and possibly buy) it for you.

Looks like I have about the same boards the one in jail is gold plated from a control unit for a massive rooftop air conditioning unit that control unit would have went for $430 on eBay had I not scrapped it stupid stupid.

The other board I'll let you know when I test it. I soaked some bleach on the side of one now I know it's not aluminum or zinc probably Cupronickel

Nickel alloys are the most common. Platinum isn’t common, not enough resistance. Palladium nickel sometimes on older stuff.

Platinum is used for pins and low resistance relays.
