1. Yes, high peripheral
2. Yes, for maximum profit
3. Always remove the board, after that it is up to you with what you want to do with it, you could disassemble it down to bare components if you want. I don't find it worth it to disassemble laptop HDDs, so I smash them with a hammer just enough to smash the glass platters inside, then I put them in my irony aluminum for my local yard. Very few laptop HDDs have aluminum platters but I have seen them.
4. Yes that is bought, probably as one of the grades of peripheral.

On #2 it's going to depend on what price you can get for the copper once it's been separated. In my experience, with the price I could get, it's not worth the time to remove the metal tops.

It's worth noting that the metal tops sometimes contain precious metal too and, while it's not much per chip, Boardsort undoubtedly handles so many of these that, whatever refiner eventually gets them, they knows there is value there too. This helps Boardsort set a price that generally makes it worth your while not to completely breakdown everything.

That being said, you may be close enough to a scrap yard that pays more for these metal tops and it may be worth your time. You may have to do it once to see if it's actually beneficial or if you should spend that time doing something else.

I will also add for number 2 that sometimes the chip die is removed with the piece of copper, leaving you with a peripheral board and a piece of irony/ dirty copper or brass depending how your yard classes it. My yard lumps irony copper and brass in the same category, listed as irony brass.

selfan70 - you can break them in half. I use a good pair of tin snips to cut boards.
