I think this was actually inside an old laptop. It can't be real old since its 14 gigs but I've never seen a hard drive shaped like this.Even the connectors look weird. Seems a shame to scrap it.

Looks like it's a 2.5" drive with an enclosure to fit into the laptop. I'm seeing prices from $11 to $250+ online. I didn't look at ebay but there may be a market for it. Museum worthy...I don't know.

Fairly standard ibm style drive.
Marked is correct; it’s in a case.

They did that to make sure buyers had to go through them to upgrade the drive. That was the idea anyway.

Size wise, we had multi gig drives (though larger 3.5”) as far back as the late 90s in enterprise equipment. HP and IBM among them. HP used a Quest 4GB 3.5” commissioned by Digital under licence, in 1999. They were used in the IBM Workbook and Digital Portable Workstation; running WSUX using UFS.

My guess would be early 2000s here. Maybe mid.

I just did a pickup downstate from me from a guy that was an IBM engineer some years ago. We're talking NOS IBM external floppy/cd drives, hard drives, etc.
There is still a very strong contingent of folks who love IBM, so if you popped this up on the IBM facebook fan user group, you could sell this without any hassle, along with any other IBM related stuff.

Another IBM beauty. Appears to have proprietary connector not usb.
