We acquired a few pieces of laboratory equipment. The question is to scrap for metals and whatever electronics there are, or try some to sell all or components. Here are a few of the considerations:

Positives:
Even as parts units, which these would be as there are a few missing/ broken parts for each (they were literally thrown into the box where an IT company puts scrap for us), there is some value. Probably on the order of several hundred dollars each.
They are really heavy, so there is a lot of material in AL castings, Stainless, etc. so there is some scrap value, though not as much as a parts sale.

Negatives:
They are heavy and would require freight shipping, which we are not equipped to do.
These are not something that I want sitting on my living room floor - they need to be gone quickly.
I have no way of testing them without a lot of rebuild time and replacement f broken/missing parts, sample holders, etc.
There are no cables, connectors, or means of computer interface. They use standard power cables, so that is not a problem.

Does anybody have a magic solution for me that is fast and would have a good payout?

Here is what we got:
Perkin Elmer Lambda 40 spectromenter (missing a cover and a few dents and no sample holder.).
Eppendorf Centrifuge 5810 (no rotor or sample holders and note about the lid that won't stay open. Plus a few dents and scratches)
Nicolet Magna - IR 760 Spectrometer (may be missing some components under coves, broken/missing cover for the sampling chamber, beam splitter crystal was wet from heavy condensation and probably ruined).
Pike MIRacle Single Reflection Horizontal ATR Accessory mounted in the IR 760 (Its mounting is loose, but looks to be ok). This is probably sellable as is on eBay as it is relatively small.

All items have possible internal damage due to the drop (3 feet) into the deckbox/dumpster.

I’m digging through lots at a invite site looking for equivalent pieces and their parts.

What I know off hand is they are expensive or worthless.

Right off the bat. Paper!
Manuals!

Cash for nothing.
Ebay works but two better choices for price if you don’t mind waiting around.

If you can get through the nonsense of doing so get an Amazon seller account and post such manuals in the industrial and scientific category. Under medical.
The number one source for printed tech manuals is Amazon search engine wise.

Also https://www.alibris.com/sellers
They’re surprisingly indexed under all sorts of speciality search apps.
I sell and buy VHS tapes here. They’re a much more, er, elite, clientele over all.

The 5810 ct has a used working (complete) rate of about $3000-$7000.
But looks to go well as parts. Hundreds for individual working pieces.
Even a case sold for $250

The nicolet 760… a few hundred to around $1000 mint.
So some lesser parts value there. I need further time to dig on it.

The pike will probably get you a low end of a few hundred.

But I found sales on that manual for over $100. Most in the $50-$60 range.

Alibris isn’t free. And the more you spend the better your reach. They are ONLY a media site and generally targeted towards books. Books with an ISBN or DOI.

But I sell comics and manuals on occasion. Both system and game manuals.
Magazines as well.

The numbers above are just passing ranges.
With an ebay store account you can access something completion rates for a paid upgrade. This shows not just “sales” where someone finished the high. Odder or bin buyer. But the actual money transferred.

Supplies things to be found. Like yes!, people really have paid thousands for Disney Diamond VHS! (Wtf, why!??)

Yes that rc car with the custom butane tank engine did sell for $1450.
Etc.

On industrial equipment you’ll find a lot of “sales” lack completion. Meaning the money didn’t pass through ebay or PayPal. If at all. That’s a lesser concern now with eBay Managed Payments but it tells you to take “sold” prices with the air quotes around them.

Lost, thank you. This is helpful. I am thinking that the Nicolet might get parted out as there is clear damage and it is easier to package and store components than the entire unit. All the components are mounted to a cast AL frame that weighs about 100 pounds, so a bit of scrap there. I also need to get these things off the living room floor as they are not useful furniture in the eyes of my wife:) The 5810 is the lightest of the units, thus easiest to package and ship (as well as move elsewhere in the house for eventual sale), so maybe try to sell that as is.

I will probably plug in the centrifuge and see if it will spin-up as it does not need a computer interface. That might be sellable locally.

I will keep some postings on this thread as to what we do with these.

Get a small cat, dog, child.
They will use it as furniture.
Problem solved.
Lol.

Took the Nicoret 760 apart. Not too much in terms of electronic boards, but several other things for parting out. The base of the instrument is a clean AL casting that weights 53.4 pounds.
