Got email about the colorcoded select boards and items, and a notice that MLCC are now accepted. Have not seen a price show up on the list yet. Did I overlook it?

Ceramic capacitors? Not on the list.
We’re they before?

Multi layer chip carriers? Not on the list. Go as flat packs.

Mint liquorice chocolate confections?
Not on the list but always acceptable. No value but the company will thank you for the free candy.

Perhaps I was dreaming. Had surgery recently and sleep cycle is off a bit. I thought I read a post from one of the regulars who is active in identifying boards saying that now that MLCC are bought, that the silver in 5 pounds pays the cost and the precious metal content is the profit. Usually my dreams are about something other than computer chips.

I think the post your are talking about was on the Boardsort Facebook page. It seems like the author was asking about Boardsort buying MLCCs

I can't imagine a better time for Boardsort to start taking MLCCs. Minimum 5 pounds actually pay for the silver the palladium content is actually smaller I am told.

The problem with multi layer ceramic capacitors, and all ceramic capacitors,
Is they’re not worth ‘$X per pound’.

They can be, and are, made out any mineral that has the right properties. That’s a LOT of options.

Most who actually purchase them alone are refining for palladium, where silver is an easy recovery along the way in the process.

But not all have silver OR palladium!

Banking on something with that many variations with a flat rate is more danger than Boardsort is likely to ever take on.
Which is why I was, would have been, surprised if they ever did take them on.

But most do contain silver and/or palladium. Non magnetic mlcc contain the most pm. Do not use a rare earth magnet to separate. Use a regular magnet. Palladium price was over 3k a couple days ago. It will get there again.

But honestly I would be afraid to buy them. I can’t blame boardsort for not buying them.

You are correct. The problem is the lack of consistency.

Unfortunately there’s no real way to make it fair by averaging high vs low. And it’s not an item will be consistently properly sorted by even the most experienced.
