computer power supply's out of their metal case with/without wire harness...does Boardsort take these as low grade ps?
How about power supplies from monitors, low grade ps?
I couldn't find anything in discussion groups that really fit my situation

thank you
Craig

Bare boards without the tail are low grade.

Will they be taken with the heatsinks still attached or do those need to be removed first? I suppose as long as the aluminum price is the same or higher than low grade PCB that wouldn't really be much of an issue?

A typical desktop PSU comes in a steel box with wires coming out one end. This is a PSU with wire.

If you cut the wire off, or if you happen to have a modular PSU with the cables unplugged, this is a PSU without wire.

If you open up the steel box and remove the circuit board this will be a steel box and, more likely than not, a low grade circuit board. Meaning you can remove pretty much what you want if you think it's worth your time to do so.

I'm at a point where I'm not usually taking PSUs apart. If I see copper or brass heatsinks inside, maybe.

Well out. I unscrew one side of a power supply box and bend it up to see inside. If I see copper I’m going in. No copper? Not worth it for me.
What’s worth it to you is up to you.
I can pull a PS apart in about 30 seconds. And decrease the value for my local yard payout.

I can totally strip one bare in 5-10 minutes depending on age and design. Giving me a few bucks most, in component scrap.

Ultimately copper heatainks and spacers make it worthwhile for myself. And you can clean a rack mount backplane PS board enough to reach low peripheral. Anything else goes as electrical scrap.
