Those of you who are E-scrapping for the money probably disagree with my request that Chris stop increasing the payout rate so much. But I am an old man, trying to clear the clutter and get rid of my hoard of "to be recycled" material, so I can do something else I have put off for the last 20 years, instead of hauling in more components to scrap. Otherwise I will end up like Mr. Wiekel, who owned a gem shop in North Carolina. I encountered him on a mountaintop about year 2010, right at dusk 12 miles from the nearest human household, while I was panning for rubies. The noise of breaking twigs and limbs was not a bear, but 98 year old Mr. Weikel and his 90 year old hiking companion. When I asked what brought them to this desolate spot so late in the day, they told me that in 1956, they had uncovered a 250 pound mass of sapphire crystals at this spot, but since it was too late in the day to haul it off the mountain, they hid it, intending to come back later to recover it. The next day, the younger man had a heart attack and they didn't get back for the huge stone. "We were sitting around the other day, and decided we had better go get it while we were still young enough" said the 98 year old man.
But I digress. I'm complaining about the higher prices Boardsort is paying. Why, I have almost doubled the payout on the current load I have ready, since I didn't get around to delivering it last year. Then, when I start loading the material, I uncover another bucket of connector ends, or another pile of material put back for later processing, or someone cleans out their basement of a few old electronic gadgets.
Last load I delivered in Dec Dec 2021, a pound of a certain class board would buy me a McDonalds hamburger. Now that payout has gone up so much, I can once again buy the same size hamburger with a pound of those boards.
But since I quit eating mickey d's hamburgers when they got too expensive, just think of all the money in my pocket when I finally get this load delivered. I really need to get this load gone and gain the space, so as a personal favoChris to hold off on increasing payout for a couple more weeks. Thank you. ( p.s. Meowfur the 10th hasn't been see in over two weeks, along with Mama Goldie. I fear they have met the Hungry Coyote)

Find a gullible young soul and sell them all your stuff at the rates you were expecting so they can turn a little profit and get sucked into the magical world of e-scrap. :D

There's the problem! The price of scrap is going up, but everything else has as well. I used to take the profit I made from scrap and buy silver or gold (basically upgrading scrap metal into precious metal). Now with silver and gold prices going up it's worth the same.

I was talking to an old timer a few years ago at a gun show and he had a pre 64 silver dime in his hand. He said back when he was a boy his mother would give him a dime like that to go to the store and buy a loaf of bread. Now all these years later that dime is worth about $2.50, and the loaf of bread also cost about $2.50 (bargain bread, not the fancy stuff). The value of commodities has remained the same, but the dollar has lost value.

I’ve had a long running debate with a less-understanding individual on another site.

Silver at $32 an ounce is worth $1 in 1897 when silver had ended its General spending moment and was replaced with paper bills in general transactions.

The dollar has changed, not the cost or value of actual trade.

A silver disme still buys a fast food hamburger.
