I hope I’m asking this in the right place… A friend of mine brought several boxes overflowing with 1990s handheld laser scanners with keyboards (some no keyboard), and he asked me if I knew how to turn them into money. He had a few he had taken apart, and showed me the boards inside of the ones that have keyboards are all gold edged, and very high grade in appearance. Now I’m just curious if it would be helpful for me to disassemble all of these scanners myself (making sure to retrieve any PM containing parts like the thin film behind the keyboards, etc.), and then ship the boards? Do you also buy those gold plated (flashed?) keyboard films? Also nearly all of the scanners without keyboards have tiny boards that have visible gold flashing dotting their surfaces… are those categorized the same as the gold edged boards? Or should I leave them as is and ship in increments? I put as many of the keyboard scanners I could fit into a box I had laying around just to see what it would weigh and it was about 68 pounds.

Under the cell phone/tablet category there is a whole handheld scanner option as long as there's no battery. Is that similar to what you have?

Voidlotus. You can post pictures for clarity on your question. Makes it so much better for everyone in the forum to respond. Oh. Only you know whether your time is worth taking stuff apart.
Here to learn like everybody else.

I would make an effort for an in-person delivery if you have that much poundage, assuming you are at least 1-2 states away.

My bad. I was in between phones when I posted this, but here's a box of the keyboard scanners, and some of the different boards and keypad films that are inside of these scanners. The smallest board is an infrared laser assembly. It still has the aluminum laser housing attached to it, but I can tear stuff like that down more so it's easier to process if thats okay? What I'm trying to ask is what would be best to ship?

I've never gotten any of these myself so I'm not 100% sure on the best option. I would probably try to sell them whole if I could, but you have to decide if shipping/driving to Boardsort is worth it.

The long board is at least high telco but I know part of what makes those more valuable is having cell phone capabilities, which probably makes the board cell phone if it has that. The laser assembly is probably sitting at or slightly better than midgrade with the aluminum. The next larger green board, I'm thinking high peripheral. The green keypad, at least midgrade but I kinda want to say low peripheral. The flexible keypad, I'm not sure.

I'm not sure if lost and I are in agreement or not. XD

But I think, based on his grades, the two I was unsure if they could edge out of midgrade are low peripheral. Then the flexible keypad is mixed wire.
