3. That a battery or capacitor? Midgrade if just a capacitor. Maybe low peripheral if it's a battery that has to be removed.

1. What's that port on the back? I was thinking there might be room to go low telco but that port looks like you got a big chunk of metal so I don't know.

4. High peripheral

5. Low peripheral

Pretty sure that board is a carbon monoxide detector, and that cylinder is the carbon monoxide sensor.

So... I don't know anything about CO detectors to know if that needs to be removed or not. But I'll rephrase, If it's on, midgrade. If it's gone, should make low peripheral.

#1 board I think will depend on what you want to do. Remove the entire metal box I could see it edging into high telco. Leaving it on I think you're at high peripheral.

If board 3 is indeed a carbon monoxide detector, or something similar, then Boardsort wants nothing to do with it because they contain a radioactive metal. The best thing to do with it is bring it to a local hazmat drop-off.

Carbon monoxide detectors don’t contain radioactive material, but ionization type smoke detectors do.

I’ve taken apart a couple of carbon monoxide detectors before, and the sensor contains some liquid inside (if you shake it you can hear it swishing). I don’t know what that liquid is though, and whether or not it is toxic or hazardous. They do also add significant weight like large capacities do.

I have a couple of those sensor cylinders in my drawer that idk what to do with them though, I forgot about them until reading this thread.

I did some reading up on carbon monoxide detectors and it sounds like they work kind of like a fuel cell and that they have an electrolyte which is usually sulfuric acid (probably the liquid that you hear).

Boardsort would probably want it removed because of the acid, but even then they may still not take it just because of what it is. So email and ask.

So my initial claim was wrong (it was an educated guess). Thanks for correcting me. :)

This sounds familiar, don't know why I didn't make the connection before. I had a board with removable CO2 sensors that were labeled as containing acid. So if that is what we're looking at then definitely can't leave that on the board. I think it can be removed fairly easily if you can cut the tabs holding it to the board (which is how I've seen them attached)

That's basically what I expected, I still think, unless you remove the entire box, you're at high peripheral.
