Discounting the obvious of.large multi-socket
Is there a better category? There's a LOT of gold here.
Quarter in pics for comparison. These are huge.

And yes I'm removing the magnesium and aluminium socket protectors.

Something is very wrong with image uploading.... grr.

not sure if you have enough ic chips present to get the telecom... I would say one of the high motherboard grades at the very least though, with a strong possibility of telecom... it will depend on the preson that grades it.

a side question though... that board with the metal sockets, was there a cpu holding device? like a hard plastic socket, or a plastic film that was between the cpu and board?

I would say that large multi-socket motherboard would best fit what you have there.

Yes. Each socket had a silver tipped polypropylene square thing in them. Throught it was rubber at first till i tested the.

I tossed them all in acid and got about just shy of an ounce of clean silver from 12 boards. And 1/10th oz platinum from the contact posts that hold the sheets in place and trip the contact circuits
No /sockets/ per say. The cpus are pin-through mcc (multi chip carrier) cpus. They pop in zif and are held by top plates.

I removed the magnesium socket sides and aluminium retention plates since they weighed over 4lbs per board

Thankyou. Was just hoping a bump would be in order since many of the pins were gold on silver and not steel.
Think I'll send them in one alone as a bump above dual and let them decided; based on you two.
There really is a crap load of gold here and not just flashing. But I've no intention of acid melting 50 lbs of boards myself.

;)

Hey Boardsort clean gold fingers Price for them would be nice. =]

how did you get the silver out of the silicon medium? I have read that the those kind of compression connectors have a small amount of silver in them, but mixed in with a silicon-rubber-type compound... or were they something different I haven't seen? do you have a picture of them by any chance? Also can you point out where you got the platinum off of? By your description, I am not sure where you are getting the Pt... once again, it may just be because I haven't ever seen anything like it before.

Just wondering because I would hate to think im throwing away PM's

The mats. I can't think of a better term: have small silver rings in them .
I just put them all in a gallon glass of acid in light heat till i got the slurry and cast it as is.
Same as i do for plated jewelry and silver pins and fingers

My refiner has bern buying the ingots like that from me for years what the final clean melt is I don't know exactly. We sort of have this trust thing on us both knowing /about/ what it's worth but not exactly the final results.

Keep in mind there ar 18 small ones and 16 large ones per board so there's a fair bit of weight there.

PS pad mat thingies were pp. Not silicon.
And i won't be trying any more. They stank like nothing I've ever dealt with.
I've probably knocked a few more years off my life now. Pulling and melting the platinum posts is a good idea but don't try refining the mats. Just a psa.

thanks for the photos... I haven't seen a compression socket quite like that before... I have seen the kapton-film with the flexible nubs (from sun sparc processors)... and hard polyprop. sockets but with spring contacts (from some highend ultra-sparc processors), but that is the first time I have seen a hard plastic case compression socket with the nubs.

and it was the soft rubbery nubs that i ment about the silcon... not really sure if its a as its a funny substance.

thanks again.
