Still are. That would be AMD and Intel DIP (rectangle) sockets, 286-486 square socket, most Motorola and MoS-T (and compatible) boards pre-2002, etc. all but the s7 VIA ceramic chip sockets.

This does not, however, include the soldered single board kit computers with plastic chips. Such as the C-128, Tandy TRS 4, TI computers.

For a while, laptop motherboard and large socket motherboard have been the same rate. It looks like recently it split, laptop motherboards are a higher rate now.

Think he was referring to the Soldered on CPU boards like the 8086 to early 386 models, I have several of those from AT/XTs upto about 1992's AMD 386

Yes, soldered old motherboards too. Unless gold caps.

I'm sorting through the left overs from a buy out I did in 2014 with a friend. Tech had been in business from 1947 until 2014 did everything from Organs and TVs to Computers and Synthizers. I'll probably have a lot of questions. During the 1980s he did his own line of IBM Clones, many of which I have NOS In box.. but unfortunately the old barrel batteries leaked and corroded the traces.

Motherboards won't be my issue though.. a lot of it is going to fall under chips and other boards.

I read a while ago that something over 90% of tech history has been lost to that. Add all the mercury solder out there that’s evil level toxic.

Very sad situation.
