Ive seen photos of, but never actually came across any boards with what appears to be actual gold soldering on them.

Is there anything special about these or is it not enough to make a difference?

All peripheral, third one barely.
Those gold plated posts and IC population makes the boards enough to jump from mid to peripheral.

Oh okay, so dont snip them off or anything? I always had it in my head that perf. was lower than mid. I guess i need to review the pay out rates again.

Don’t snip them, they boost it from midgrade to peripheral
