Likely brass. That’s an entry level deck. The only company I know of the era that used gold trim at the low levels was Panasonic/Matsushita. Onkyo and Pioneer had some high end super trim packages but few and far between. And the gold trim is jewellery grade. All 1/10 mil. On a high silver bronze.
The CH series of face boards were used by many manufacturers but mostly Yamaha and Mitsubishi. Pioneer and Onkyo used a Panasonic face board. Both those series (Premiere HV and K gold, respectively) started in the low $8k to $10k range and if you stripped just the bling you’d get about half an ounce of gold. Kind of stupid when a whole dead CD player of those lines can fetch at least close to a grand.
