Given the grade on 5 I’d crack open r229 and pull the metal out. It’s likely copper or nickel but may be silver or silveride.
j201 and j202 may also have a nice treat if you can get in them.

Will do. Do you think the knobs are just brass on j201 and 202?

Likely brass. That’s an entry level deck. The only company I know of the era that used gold trim at the low levels was Panasonic/Matsushita.
Onkyo and Pioneer had some high end super trim packages but few and far between. And the gold trim is jewellery grade. All 1/10 mil. On a high silver bronze.

The CH series of face boards were used by many manufacturers but mostly Yamaha and Mitsubishi. Pioneer and Onkyo used a Panasonic face board. Both those series (Premiere HV and K gold, respectively) started in the low $8k to $10k range and if you stripped just the bling you’d get about half an ounce of gold. Kind of stupid when a whole dead CD player of those lines can fetch at least close to a grand.
