Top, bottom and close up of the same board.
The metal is different from what I is on most boards. I'm reluctant to remove it before I hear from you.

Those metal caps need to come off if you can get them off.
High telco unless they are out of a cell phone then they are cell class.

Could be mercury relay!

I'm searching but haven't found anything yet. Do not attempt to remove the silver boxes, they are not simply metal shields.

I can't find enough information on the components to give a definite answer. The black triangle is my concern for the potential of having mercury. Unless someone can give you a definite answer on those two components, treat as hazardous.

Thank you, I will wait.
I knew they looked different, just not sure.
Better to be safe than sorry.

Thanks again!

OK, guys and girls.
I can't find anything though a Google search, BUT, I remember reading some posts on this forum about mercury switches.
I tried searching with just the term "mercury", but no hits.
I then searched " loaf of bread"...where there's a will...
Several posts came up about mercury relays. Some had the solid black triangle.

Now I have to figure out where to take this thing.
I will definitely not be sending it to any recycler.

1. Check with Chris on these boards, he should know if they are or not.

2. My opinion, Those boards look too new (within the past 20 years) to me to have mercury relays on them, because the boards have mostly flat packs and other surface mounted devices. This is well past when mercury relays were banned.

The component package also does not look right for it to be a mercury relay.

Definitely.

Raytheon is an aerospace company (unless this is a different raytheon)

If I remember correctly there is still use of mercury relays in certain industries (like aerospace). Does that mean these components are mercury? I don't know, but I was trying to be cautious.

Lynne, the sticky topic for IC chips and Dallas boxes also has mercury switches mentioned in there also.

I am not 100 percent sure either. And I do agree with you that they are still used out there in very limited applications.

The box that is actually closest to a mercury relay is the small one (also Raytheon) in between the big Raytheon and the small transformers kind of tucked in the corner between the two. It kind of looks like the end of a loaf of bread.

Lynne, if I may ask, what did those boards with the components in question come out of, that may help us figure out if they are mercury relays or not?

Sorry if I have offended anyone with my previous post. I totally understand that you are trying to be cautious because the boards look like they might have mercury relays on them.
