This isn't just for question sake but also to show something I found that could throw off some that are newer to electronics in general. Refer to the attached picture for points #1 & #2.
1. To the best of my understanding this is one of the types of tantalum capacitors that Boardsort is buying, it is indeed a capacitor but I am looking for confirmation here as I have not sold anything to Boardsort as of this time, I am still sorting things for the first time and learning.
2. This is a diode and not a capacitor. They look nearly identical even the markings are very similar and to the best of my understanding this is NOT something that Boardsort pays for under it's own category or the board categories.
Comparing the two components: - They are both SMD(surface mounted device) and are soldered on both ends - Both have a single pin on each end and none on the sides - Both are nearly identical shapes and have very similar markings
Differences in the components: - Looking closely at the pins on the end we see that #1 has a flat pin, whereas #2 has a round pin. - #1 was marked with a "C" on the circuit board while #2 was marked with a "D"(this is not pictured as the components were already removed)
These are very subtle differences that could easily be overlooked. With some input from more experienced recyclers on this forum, please correct me on anything I've incorrectly stated, this might help some that are newer to electronics and their components. I am no authority on this, I just felt to post what I saw as a question rose up for me about how Boardsort would be able to effectively sort out components so small that looked so similar. Since it seems they are doing a trial run(maybe it's more set in at the moment I don't personally know), the less trouble they have sorting and being able to maintain quality for those they supply to, the easier it is to continue paying for such things, and everyone benefits. Boardsort is a business and if these very specific categories become unprofitable because those that send them in are not doing their part in sorting and then mixing in items that are not the specific item listed, that item has to some how be dropped, or the price reduced. I do not by any means believe I speak for Chris or Boardsort, I only know what it is to run a business in general and that most people in general do not because they have never had to see that side of things, whether it was or was not a fault of their own. It's no judgment against you if you have never had to see what it is to run a business, just know it's never as simple and easy as it seems from the outside.
