I was watching Shark Scrapper on Youtube and he turned me on to your site/services. I currently have about 90+ Wyse thin clients that I am breaking down and would like some advice on board classification. I have attached some pictures and was wondering if you might help me. These thin clients also have three pieces of copper sheet which look like they are being used for dissipating heat. I was also wondering about the classification of this copper. Would the classification of the copper be different if the plastic were removed?
Thanks in advance.

1. At least high peripheral, but could get laptop motherboard grade. Wait for someone more experienced to reply
2. That's a SSD so hard drive board grade

For the copper parts, my guess would be #2 copper as is, clean copper heatsink if you remove the plastic. Also, check with a file or grinder to make sure it is real copper and not copper plated aluminum.

Thanks for your help. I have a few other servers to tear down so I will wait for additional input on classifiation.
Thanks again.

Tried to respond earlier and phone browser crashed and ate my reply D:

1) High peripheral

2) SSD's vary. If it has a traditional HDD type connection you're usually at HD Board, if it is the M.1 style with gold fingers then High telco. This is neither so my guess is low telco.

TBH i'm not too sure about the SSD, I assumed it would be HDD board grade since I've seen that grade for most SSD boards. But this doesn't have a gold plated pin connector unlike SATA SSDs, so maybe not HDD board grade. Looks to me like high telecom though, since most of the area of the board are the two ICs.

Also, M.2 SSDs are also HDD grade with the fingers, high telco without. According to this thread viewtopic.php?f=3&t=20917&hilit=nvme

PickleJar found a newer post than what I referenced for my grading (I found a couple from Lost from last year)

Newer information is probably more correct especially since ccussins got it directly from Chris. So high telco is probably good.

Teamwork! :D

If that is the case for the copper it doesn't make any sense to remove the plastic as #2 copper and clean copper heatsinks are the same $3.25/lb.

You might take a few pieces to a local scrapyard and see what prices they would give you with or without the plastic. Let them know approximately how much you'll have once you go through everything and they may be willing to work with you towards a better price.

Nobody got upset that I posted this info before so here's a good rundown on copper if you're not 100% familiar with it.

I'm not certain but heatsinks tend to have solder so Boardsort may see heatsinks as #2 copper but may separate them as there probably is a slight difference in value.

I just realized that heatsink and #2 copper are same price. Tbh I'm not sure about Boardsort's policy on the metal category.

I'd recommend checking with your local scrapyard and comparing their prices, and seeing if it is better worth it shipping to boardsort or selling to a local scrapyard. I personally have not sold anything to Boardsort yet as I'm planning to ship 50 pounds of material at a time (I've compared multiple carriers and a 50 pound package via UPS seems to be the cheapest per pound), but my local scrapyard's rates for metal are similar, but boardsort pays much better for electronic scrap.

My local yard says anything thinner than a penny is #2, so those heatsinks go as #2. I had several WYSE terminals a few years ago and peeled the coating off the copper until I realized it didn't change the grade. I thought they would call it insulation if I left it on.

You can pop that socketed IC out if it's worth your time.
