Can I trim the gold fingers or would that change the value?

It'll go as a Metal socket, so knowing that it won't change the value much since it's a larger candy cane style MB; trim away.

Plus, having the extra population , doesn't take much away from removing the gfingers.

Since not all motherboards have them, that is safe to remove. Be sure to trim as close to the edge of the gold as possible.
