This has probably been asked before, but let's say I have a nice HGT board, worth $12/lb or whatever it is. Here is a picture I pulled from ebay below. So the jist of what boardsort says is separating the gold fingers and selling them for $85/lb is a waste because you could get more for the board intact with weight etc. This is true for dealing with 1 buyer depending on shipping costs. So let's say I want to cut off the fingers to sell on ebay or process myself. As far as I can tell, the same board with all the packed ICs are classed as trimmed board, $3/lb, but a card with less good stuff and no fingers to begin with can be HGP at $6/lb. It doesn't seem to make sense, unless I'm just reading it wrong. I guess my question is why would a high grade telco boards with no fingers be worth less than a peripheral board that never had fingers to begin with?

Trimmed cards is for gold fingered cards (RAM and slot processors also have a trimmed version). GFCs are mainly PCI type cards from desktops. Those fingers have a known amount of gold and are a big part of the value of GFCs and by removing them you get a substantial price drop, which is why it's not worth removing them. Other boards with gold fingers may or may not fall under GFCs based on a number of factors.

What you're looking at is a high Telco board. Removing the fingers in this case probably won't affect that grade due to the large number of ICs and presumably gold plated pins in the connectors opposite the fingers.

Personally I wouldn't cut them off but that's just me.
